This young woman was born with the most common congenital dental abnormality, which is the absence of the two teeth that sit beside her two front teeth, also known as lateral incisors. Fortunately for her, her orthodontist elected to maintain the space that would have been occupied by these teeth so that when she became of age, she could have proper replacement teeth made for her. Many times the orthodontist will close the gap by moving the teeth (canine teeth) next in line into the space. After doing so, no matter how hard the cosmetic dentist tries, it never looks right due to having odd shaped teeth in the wrong place.

Growing up, Rebecca had a series of flippers (removable teeth), and Maryland bridges (a replacement tooth bonded to the backs of the adjacent teeth). Neither alternative looked good, nor felt like natural teeth in her mouth.

Now in her mid- twenties, Rebecca was ready and excited to get implants in the spaces that were maintained.

Note how natural the implant crowns look. Additionally, Rebecca is able to brush and floss around these crowns in a normal way, since each tooth is individually supported and not connected to the adjacent teeth. For the first time in her life, she has a normal feeling mouth.
